Bulembu Honey

Bulembu Honey is also one of the original enterprises in Bulembu. The property lends itself to great terrain for bee-rearing and the potential of expansion is enormous. The enterprise started in January 2007 and is now entering its first season of honey production. The overall goal of Bulembu Honey is to empower Swazi entrepreneurs through creating jobs and producing organic, high quality honey.

By positioning ourselves as a high quality producer of honey in an under-supplied market, we believe we will be able to market Bulembu Honey at a premium price. With the global shortage of honey and drastic increase in demand, Bulembu honey will likely produce surpluses within 3 years. Since 2007 the company has already accomplished the following:

  • Nearly 1,000 honey producing hives in operation
  • Obtained international funding for 90% of the working capital and processing plant which will begin production in Spring of 2008.
  • Created over 10 direct jobs within the community and anticipates to establish over 100 in the next 3 years.
  • Hired a full-time South African bee hive manager who will continue to lead the business growth.
