News and Updates Summer 2008

Our new newsletter will be coming out by the fall of 2008 and posted here. For all questions and comments regarding ministry, volunteering, internships and other ministry information please email info@bulembu.org.

Orphan Care

The number of orphans in the country is increasing at an alarming rate. By 2010, 1 in 6 children will be a child under 15 who has lost both parents to HIV/AIDS. In 2004 there were over 60,000 AIDS orphans – and that number is expected to double by 2010. Of these, 15,000 households in the country are already headed by children, some as young as 11, who are trying to raise their little brothers and sisters by themselves.

The Bulembu Valley of Hope Academy

Bulembu has 3 school buildings which have the capacity to educate over 1,800 students. Currently only one facility is functional and serves nearly 130 children. The Bulembu Academy was launched in 2007 with Jon Skinner as its Headmaster. However, that facility is now at capacity and Bulembu is in the process of raising needed funds to renovate a second facility which will have the capacity to educate over 450 more children. Bulembu Hospital

Health is essential to community development and is a growing need in Africa, especially Swaziland. The Bulembu Clinic currently receives nearly 500 visitors a month. Although the clinic has the capacity to become an 80 bed hospital, it is currently understaffed and short of supplies. Even in the midst of such conditions though, many are being treated and the clinic is developing more and more each day.
